In 1997 the Flinders University Baseball and Softball Club hosted the Australian University Championships for baseball and softball. Without doubt this tournament was one of the clubs greatest achievements. For this event 4 temporary diamonds were constrcuted (1 baseball, 3 softball) each with pitching mounds (for baseball) and home run fences added to the existing two diamonds at the Flinders University playing fields.
12 baseball teams and 10 softball teams competed in the 5 day tournament held in Septmber with the tournament won by the University of South Australia in baseball and Sydney University in softball.
This tournament was described by many as the most succesful AUC for baseball and softball ever due to the professionalism of the tournament, elaborate playing facilities and fun social events.
The organising comittee consisted of;
Chairman: Matt Miles, Baseball Manager: Josh Henderson, Softball Manager: Brett Davy (Wombat), Secretary: Leigh Norman, Treasurer: Glen Sauer, Social Manager: Lee Cumberlidge, Committee Members: Andrew Smith, Nick Dandy
However a great deal of others also made invaluable contributions including Hugh Franke, Stephen Miles and Simon Hope.
